As Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson took the field, instead of listening to his coaches and taking a knee, he decided to call an audible. Wilson hiked the ball and ran a jet sweep, setting up David Moore for an easy catch. The play call confused the announcers, and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll appeared upset on the sideline, wondering why Wilson decided to risk throwing a pass in a close game.
The reason was simple. Moore needed just one more catch to trigger a $100,000 performance bonus. Wilson didn't want to leave Moore hanging with 34 catches, so he called an audible and ensured Moore would reach 35 catches on the year, a career-high for the fourth-year receiver.
On the next play, the Seahawks lined up in victory formation, and Wilson took a knee, securing the win and the third seed in the NFC.
"We called that play because David had $100,000 if he gets that catch," Wilson said after the game. "So you know, it's a blessing to be able to help his family and his daughter and all that stuff.
