Twitter Has Hilarious Reaction to Alex Caruso's Arrest

Los Angeles Lakers point guard Alex Caruso, already one of Twitter’s most popular players because of his hairline and a meme with Rihanna, quickly went viral on Wednesday after being arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.

Airport TSA in College Station, TX, the college town of Caruso’s alma mater Texas A&M, searched Caruso’s bag at a security checkpoint and found an herb grinder that contained weed.

Caruso was then arrested for ‘possession of fewer than two ounces of marijuana' and was later released on bond.

Twitter instantly started going to work with the seemingly innocuous news, with hilarious theories ranging from Caruso doing a drug run for LeBron James, to Caruso purposely getting busted to boost his 'street cred' in the locker room.

Caruso is 27 years old and has spent the last four seasons with the Lakers, averaging just 5.9 points, but has put together quite an impressive list of highlights in the short spurts of court time he’s gotten. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.7 assists in four seasons for the Aggies.

In Texas, possession of marijuana less than two ounces is a class B misdemeanor and may include a punishment of up to 180 days in jail, as well as a $2,000 fine.

Caruso went undrafted in 2016 after earning SEC All-Defensive Team and second-team All-SEC honors during his senior season at Texas A&M.

The College Station native played in the G-League for the Oklahoma City Blue and South Bay Lakers, before becoming the first player to move to the NBA through a two-way contract in 2017.

Caruso emerged as a key role player for the Lakers and was rewarded with a two-year contract in 2019.

He contributed to Los Angeles' 17th NBA championship during the 2020 season, earning a start in the series-clinching Game 6, and averaging 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game, despite playing through injuries during the end of the regular season and playoffs.
