Dwayne Haskins Was Drunk, Ingested Painkillers When Hit By Truck: Autopsy

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins Jr. was drunk and had ingested painkillers when he was fatally struck by a dump truck while walking along a Florida highway in April, an autopsy report revealed.

The Broward County Medical Examiner's Office released the report on Monday (May 23) and determined Haskins' blood alcohol level was .20 at the time of his death. That's more than two and half times the legal limit of .08 for driving in the state of Florida. The report also indicated Haskins had painkillers in his system, though it did not specify why.

Haskins died April 9 after investigators said he got out of his car on Interstate 595 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The woman Haskins was with told authorities the car had run out of gas and the former Ohio State University star exited the vehicle to get fuel. Witnesses say Haskins was attempting to wave down other vehicles and was standing in the center lane when he was struck by a dump truck and then an SUV.

The medical examiner's office ruled that the 24-year-old died as a result of blunt force trauma and that his death was an accident. No charges have been filed.
