No. 2 Overall Pick Chet Holmgren Will Miss Entire NBA Season

Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Chet Holmgren will miss the entire 2022-23 NBA season due to a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, the team announced in a news release shared on their official website Thursday.

"Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season," said Thunder vice president and general manager Sam Presit. "We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community. One of the things that most impressed us during the process of selecting Chet was his determination and focus. We expect that same tenacity will carry him through this period of time as we work together and support him during his rehabilitation."

Holmgren experienced the injury while playing in a Pro-Am game in Seattle -- the Thunder's previous home city as the Supersonics prior to the franchise's move and rebranding in 2008 -- on Saturday.

Holmgren averaged 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds during his lone season at Gonzaga in 2021-22, which concluded with a Sweet 16 loss to Arkansas in the 2022 NCAA March Madness Tournament.

The 7-footer played in both the Utah and Las Vegas Summer Leagues after being drafted by the Thunder, which included averaging 17.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.0 blocks per game, as well as shooting 50% from the field and 41.7% on 3-pointers during the Utah Summer League tournament.

Holmgren was the consensus No. 1 overall high school prospect for the 2021 national recruiting cycle, earning a 5-star rating and a perfect 1.0000 grade, according to the 247Sports Composite.
