James Jones: “How did the Dallas Cowboys relationship start with Dak Prescott? He kicked out Tony Romo, 13-year starter. Tony Romo, playing at a high level every year, Dallas Cowboys in the mix and in the playoffs every year. But Tony was not winning the big games. So you know what they said? ‘You gotta go, we’re gonna help you get on TV, but you gotta get up out of here, it’s the Dak Prescott Show.’ We saw it happen with Kirk Cousins. Six years in Washington, you’re not winning the big game, you gotta go. Donovan McNabb, 11 seasons with the Eagles. You not winning the big game? You gotta go. We’ve seen it with quarterback after quarterback. Jimmy G was in the Super Bowl and in NFC championships-- ‘ya know what, we gotta get better at that spot, you gotta go.’ Dak Prescott after this season has no more guaranteed money. This season he’ll get $40 million and after this season he has no more guaranteed money. You have a young quarterback [Trey Lance] making $5 million. If the Dallas Cowboys lose this season like they did last season because of Dak Prescott, you better believe it that Jerry Jones did not make this move for nothing, and Dak Prescott is fighting for his job. Dak has to go out there and play well or Dak will not be in a Dallas Cowboys uniform.
