Blazin' 5: Colin Cowherd Gives His Five Best NFL Bets For Week 1

(VIDEO SEGMENT ABOVE)

Last Season's 2022 Blazin' 5 record: 44-37-4

49ers at Steelers (SPREAD: SF -2.5)

“I'm taking Pittsburgh +2.5. They ended last season on a four-game winning streak and won their last five games when Kenny Pickett was healthy. TJ Watt returns, and they were 8-2 when he was healthy. They've got young, emerging stars on offense for the Steelers. Diontae Johnson, George Pickens, Jaylen Warren, Darnell Washington-- it is a stacked roster, we just don't know what Pickett is. This defense in the last seven weeks crushed people and suffocated offense. I can argue it can go toe-to-toe with the Niners as the League's best defense. Meanwhile, San Francisco, DeMeco Ryans, the DC is gone, George Kittle may not play, Brock Purdy-- a lot of noise at quarterback. This is a tough spot for them. Steelers win, I'll take the points, 24-23, I'm taking Pittsburgh.”

Colin's prediction: Steelers 24, 49ers 23.

Colin's pick: Pittsburgh +2.5

Jaguars at Colts (SPREAD: JAX -4.5)

“I'm taking the Colts +4.5. Divisional home underdogs are 7-0 against the spread in Week 1 the last five years. Shane Steichen's a great coach, we don't know what they are, it's the element of surprise. Jags play Kansas City next week. Home underdogs, divisional rivals, I like them. By the way, Shaq Leonard's back, they're always better when he's around. Their offensive line is ranked 10th. I think they can ball control it, element of surprise, I love Shane Steichen. The Jags, by the way, were not a good favorite last year-- the five times they were, they were 1-5 as a favorite under Pederson. Their o-line is a bit of a mess, and you can run the football on them. Last year everybody did and running quarterbacks had great success. Last year they allowed the fourth most rushing yards to quarterbacks in the entire league. Anthony Richardson may be the best running quarterback in the league, we may know that by the late afternoon. I'm going to take the upset of the weekend, Colts win, 24-23.”

Colin's prediction: Colts 24, Jaguars 23.

Colin's pick: Indianapolis +4.5

Eagles at Patriots (SPREAD: PHI -4)

“I’m taking Bill Belichick at home as a dog +4. By the way, he's 16-7 in Week 1 as a head coach. He's a very good opening coach. Bill O'Brien is there now, they got a real OC. They add Zeke, Juju Smith-Schuster, Mike Gesicki; they're not stars in their prime but they're productive players. New England returns 19-22 starters and their defense, what's new? Top three in sacks and picks. THAT’S what that defense does. The Eagles lost both coordinators. Listen, they got guys to replace. A TJ Edwards, CJ Gardner-Johnson, Miles Sanders, Hargrave-- they've got a lot of people gone, coordinators gone, a lot of guys out, I think the Eagles win close. It's a very interesting game but I'm taking the points, Patriots cover, Eagles win though, 27-26.”
Colin's prediction: Eagles 27, Patriots 26.

Colin's pick: New England +4

Dolphins at Chargers (SPREAD: LAC -3)

“The only favorite I like this weekend, I like the Chargers -3. Kellen Moore is a difference-maker. Dolphins don't know what they're getting. Their o-line is the ninth-best in the league, Rashawn Slater, a great left tackle from Northwestern returns, so does Joey Bosa and JC Jackson. Quentin Johnston, rookie receiver, had a great camp. Justin Herbert is outstanding. Protection is hit and miss, but now the o-line is young, in their prime, and healthy. The defense when Brandon Staley had his guys health? Top-three scoring defense last five weeks of the year. Meanwhile, Miami... I don't like their offensive line situation. Left tackle Terron Armstead hasn't practiced, he's not playing, and I didn't like the o-line when he WAS playing. This is a tough spot, long travel, the only favorite I like, Chargers win, 28-23."

Colin's prediction: Chargers 28, Dolphins 23.

Colin's pick: Los Angeles -3

Cowboys at Giants (SPREAD: DAL -3.5)

“Give me the G-Men. By the way, do you know they were the best team in the league last year against the spread? Daboll as a dog is 13-4 dog, there’s a dog barking here. Darren Waller will help the tight end spot. Rookie Jalin Hyatt I think is explosive. Daniel Jones at home last year-- young quarterbacks are often better at home. He's pretty good at home, 94.3 passer rating, 16 TDs, three picks. The Cowboys were a .500 team on the road, Kellen Moore is gone, I got a Tyron Smith left tackle issue, and a Tyler Smith left guard issue. I don't love this staff, I think the best coach on the staff is their defensive coordinator. I do not buy that Daniel Jones and the Giants are regressing. Daboll year two with Daniel Jones and better weapons is a better Daniel Jones. He may have a ceiling. Giants shock America. I'm taking the hook 3.5, they beat the Cowboys, 27-24.”

Colin's prediction: Giants 27, Cowboys 24.

Colin's pick: New York +3.5
