2023 Blazin' 5 record: 0-9-1

Week 1: 0-5

Week 2: 0-4-1

Chargers at Vikings (SPREAD: MIN -1.5)

“I'm going to take the better team, the better quarterback, the better roster-- Chargers +1.5. Under Kellen Moore the offense has been great, 386 yards per game. They're one of five teams without a turnover, 2.8 points per drive is top three in the league, 49 first downs-- only the Dolphins and Rams have more. It's been the defense. Herbert has zero interceptions. Austin Ekeler is a key component, he is now returning. Ankle injury, they think he can play. The Vikings have been sloppy and have the most giveaways in the league with seven. The Vikings rushing offense has been non-existent and puts more pressure on Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins. Frankly, defensively they [Minnesota] don't get to the quarterback, and that was a little bit of an issue last week against the Titans when Justin Herbert got pressured. Better team, better roster, unbelievable urgency, Chargers win, take the points, 27-24."

Colin's prediction: Chargers 27, Vikings 24

Colin's pick: Los Angeles +1.5

Saints at Packers (SPREAD: GB -1)

“I'm going to take the Saints +1 against Green Bay. Forget about Derek Carr, they have three receivers right now that are undrafted, one of them Chris Olave, Michael Thomas, great players, then they have Rashid Shaheed who has been really good. So three really viable receivers. But it's the Saints defense, dig deeper. Do you know they've held opponents under 20 points for eight straight games dating back to last season? That's insane. The Packers have the youngest roster, David Bakhtiari is hurt, Christian Watson is banged up, Aaron Jones. Even though the Packers have scored, they're 29th in first downs gained, and 29th in Big Plays [rushes of 10+ yards, receptions of 20+ yards], so they don't have the ability to burn you when Watson isn't healthy, meaning you can be more aggressive defensively. They're banged up, I still don't know what Jordan Love is, and I know what Derek Carr is. I'll take the points, I think the Saints win outright 24-23."

Colin's prediction: Saints 24, Packers 23

Colin's pick: New Orleans +1

Bills at Commanders (SPREAD: BUF -6.5)

“I'm going to go Commanders +6.5. Look at the weather up the coast, there's a tropical storm. It'll be a wet and windy mess. I always take points when I get a competent team, 6.5 points, and a messy game. The defense for the Commanders leads the NFL in sacks and quarterback hits, that means Josh Allen will be pressured. What does Josh Allen do when he's pressured? Since Brian Daboll left last year as a coordinator they lead the entire sport in giveaways. I think it's low-scoring, a lot of football between the thirties, sloppy wet weather, ball could be lose, and I know you guys are making fun of me because I like Sam Howell, but it seems every couple drafts we find a quarterback third, fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh round in the NFL who ends up being a Dak Prescott. I'm going to give the Bills the win late on a field goal, but I'm going to take the Commanders to keep it close late into the game, 27-24 Buffalo."
Colin's prediction: Bills 27, Commanders 24

Colin's pick: Washington +6.5

Patriots at Jets (SPREAD: NE -2.5)

“My only favorite, I'm taking New England -2.5. Quarterback/head coach advantage usually means a win and the Patriots have got both here. They outplayed Philly in the second half and they arguably outplayed Miami in the fourth quarter. I still think Belichick is a great coach and Mac Jones is competent. He leads the NFL in completions and pass attempts. They've got to engineer a run-game, they were banged up on the offensive line. They do get a key defensive lineman back this week. Zach Wilson is just not a franchise quarterback and Belichick has eaten him alive, 51% completion percentage. Belichick defensively is the greatest coach in the history of the sport. What does he own? Young quarterbacks who make mistakes. I'm going to take the Patriots to win it, swallow the 2.5 points, 21-17 in a low-scoring game."

Colin's prediction: Patriots 21, Jets 17

Colin's pick: New England -2.5

Rams at Bengals (SPREAD: CIN -3)

“I'm going to take the Rams +3. Joe Burrow may not play and he's not practicing. They have no deep ball and that's the way you can beat the Rams. You can go over the top sometimes and beat them. The Rams offense this year has been a shocker. They got two great players in the draft-- a left guard and Puka Nacua, that kid is unbelievable. Fifteen catches last week against the Niners. Kyren Williams leads the NFL with four from-scrimmage touchdowns. They are humming offensively with the play-calling, the symmetry, the cohesion on the offensive line. Joe Burrow re-aggravated a calf injury and people who re-injure calves are prone to do that. He came back early, re-aggravated it, is not practicing, therefore Jake Browning is the backup-- not a big arm guy or over the top guy, more of a ball-control, smart kid. I'm going to take the points, Rams-- Stafford, McVay, Puka Nacua, their youth, they're healthier, 30-27."

Colin's prediction: Rams 30, Bengals 27

Colin's pick: Los Angeles +3
